Mean (Average)
0
Total Numbers: 0
Sum of Numbers: 0
Calculation: 0 ÷ 0 = 0
Formula: Mean = Sum of all numbers ÷ Total count of numbers

How Average Calculation Works

Mean (Average) is calculated by adding all numbers together and dividing by the count of numbers.

For numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50:

Sum = 10 + 20 + 30 + 40 + 50 = 150

Count = 5 numbers

Mean = 150 ÷ 5 = 30

About Average Calculations

Average calculations are fundamental statistical measures used to summarize data sets.

  • Mean (Average): Sum of all values divided by count of values
  • Median: Middle value when numbers are sorted (or average of two middle values)
  • Mode: Most frequently occurring value(s) in the data set
  • Range: Difference between maximum and minimum values
  • Minimum: Smallest value in the data set
  • Maximum: Largest value in the data set
  • Sum: Total of all values added together
  • Count: Number of values in the data set

Different types of averages are used in different contexts: mean for general average, median for skewed data, mode for categorical data.

Note: Mean can be affected by outliers. Use median when data has extreme values.
