About Redirects
HTTP redirects are used to send users and search engines to different URLs than the ones they originally requested.
- 301 Moved Permanently: Permanent redirect for SEO – passes most link equity
- 302 Found: Temporary redirect – minimal SEO value passed
- 307 Temporary Redirect: Similar to 302 but preserves HTTP method
- 308 Permanent Redirect: Similar to 301 but preserves HTTP method
- Avoid long redirect chains (more than 3 hops) for better SEO performance
- Check for redirect loops and broken links regularly
For SEO, always use 301 redirects for permanent URL changes to preserve link equity.
